Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport earns $2 million in federal grants

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport (GRB) is being given a $2 million federal grant by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as part of its Airport Improvement Program.

One of 320 grants across the U.S. from the program, the money will be used to purchase additional snow removal equipment. GRB Airport Director Marty Piette says it’s a big deal ahead of Wisconsin winters.

“Keeping our runways open and safe is always a priority and having reliable equipment to keep the snow off the runways is a part of that picture,” Piette said.

GRB plans to purchase two multi-functional airfield snow removal trucks from M-B companies in Chilton. However, the multi-functional airfield snow removal trucks aren’t expected until Sept. 2025.

“As Wisconsinites, we take pride in not letting the snow stop us from traveling,” Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach said. “But safety must come first whether it’s with our roads or our airport runways.”
