MENOMINEE, Mich. (WFRV) – The Salvation Army gathered on Thursday morning to hold a Feeding America Mobile Food Pantry, providing food to families in need in a ‘drive-thru’ process.
According to the release, a “Mobile Food Pantry” contains about 15,000 pounds of food that has been sent on a truck, and provides food for hundreds of families in need.

The food was provided on a first-come, first-serve basis at the YMCA in Menominee. Salvation Army Core Officer Rhegan Stansbury said it’s the fourth year that they’ve done this, and they do it once a month.
“Families come through to get food, usually it’s fresh produce, but also some other items,” Stansbury said. “We usually serve 400-500 households, which can be up to 1,000 individuals we’re serving.”
Stansbury said that while there’s a good amount of regulars that show up, it requires a lot of volunteers.
“Coordinating with community partners to get the funding, we were traveling to a lot of places before landing on the Y,” Stansbury said. “It’s been a real blessing to have this location, it’s a great place to have people drive through and line up.”

Each box comes with some seasonal produce, and sometimes bakery items or even meat and dairy, depending on what Feeding America can obtain.
