APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – High school girls in Appleton had the chance to explore future careers in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) through the “SMART Girls Rock” event held on Wednesday.
The day-long mentoring experience, organized by the Fox Cities Chamber and hosted by Miller Electric, aimed to inspire the next generation of female leaders to step into STEAM fields.

The event brought together 150 students from 18 schools across the Fox Cities, who were paired with women mentors from 14 local companies.
These professional women shared their experiences, challenges, and advice, fostering meaningful connections with the students.

One participant, Taleyea Smith, a high school junior, expressed her excitement, saying, “I think it’s super important because you don’t normally see women in the workplace with stuff like this, with technology and all that type of stuff. So I think it’s cool how it’s empowering us to go forward and be leaders in workplaces like this.”
The event reflects an ongoing effort to diversify STEAM fields and encourage young women to pursue careers in areas where they are often underrepresented.
