MONONA, Wis. (WFRV) – Officers in Wisconsin are searching for suspects at large after opting to not re-engage a suspect vehicle that fled police at high speeds.
According to the Monona Police Department, officers saw a vehicle speeding at 78 miles per hour while monitoring traffic shortly after midnight on Thursday.
Officers attempted to pull the suspect vehicle over as it headed north along Stoughton Road; however, the driver, operating a black Chevy Malibu, refused to stop and caused a pursuit.
Officers continued to attempt a safe stop as it minimal traffic was present. The suspect continued to flee north, slowing to a stop as a passenger fled from the vehicle into a building. While running, the passenger left a backpack with illegal drugs in it.
The officers continued their focus on the vehicle, noticing that the suspect took off again; however, they obtained plate information and opted to not re-engage.
