APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV)—A restaurant advertising itself as Wisconsin’s first authentic Vietnamese coffee shop opened its doors on Saturday in Appleton.
For most of the morning, the line to order nearly spilled out the door at Ro Caphe. Packed with people eager to get their hands on delicious Vietnamese coffee and bánh mì sandwiches.
Ro Caphe owner Hieu Ngo operated a coffee stand out of a trailer for about a year before he was able to open a brick-and-mortar restaurant on Saturday. He’s from Vietnam and said his mom was a street vendor which inspired his own journey with Ro Caphe.

He said the support means the world to him.
“I want to cry, I was in the kitchen and I walk out and see people in line and people love it,” he told Local 5 News. “That’s a gift, that’s a gift for me, I’m feeling really thankful and grateful too.”
Customers told Local 5 News that Vietnamese coffee is richer and has more flavor than American coffee. They compared it to a strong espresso drink.
Ngo also decorated the inside of the restaurant with pieces of Vietnamese culture.
“I want to share my piece of culture with all of the Fox Valley,” he said.
Ro Caphe is at 1350 W. College Ave. For more information about the new restaurant, please click here.
