Appleton Police Department promote the importance of safe internet use for children

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – Police in Appleton talked with parents on Monday to discuss the importance of making sure families and children are staying safe while on the internet.

The presentation reportedly went over ways to identify and avoid risky behavior on the internet while also discussing the best ways to approach children on the importance of being safe online.

Officials say it is important to limit screen time for children as well as to make sure the children feel empowered to speak out when they see or notice something wrong.

Some of the major points we want to get across are the proper use of apps, making sure we’re monitoring what type of internet our children are on, some gaming sources like Xbox, Playstation.

Officers with the Appleton Police Department also added that they hope more parents will adopt safer online practices themselves to help make sure children follow in their footsteps.
