150.1 pound female harvested in Neenah among three 100+ pound sturgeons speared as season enters final days

(WFRV) – The sturgeon spearing season will wrap up in the coming days, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) provided an update for February 19’s harvest totals.

The harvest totals were low throughout the system, which is not a surprise as officials say it’s usually the day with the lowest harvests.

2025 Sturgeon Season update: Lowest harvest reported on Lake Winnebago

36 lake sturgeon were speared in the system on Wednesday, with 31 coming on Lake Winnebago. Three of the speared fish on Wednesday measured at over 100 pounds, two being registered at the Neenah station.

The largest was an F2 female at 150.1 pounds and 78.5 inches, speared by Keith Kerstner.

Four registration stations around Lake Winnebago have registered at least 80 fish:

  • Quinney – 96
  • Southwest Winnebago – 80
  • Downtown Oshkosh – 84
  • Neenah – 93.

In the Upriver area, five fish were harvested, one adult female and four males, pushing the total for the Upriver area to 41 juvenile females, 44 adult females and 208 males. Seven of them weigh over 100 pounds.

Upriver, 1 adult female and 4 males were harvested. This brings the season total Upriver to 41 juvenile females, 44 adult females and 208 males with 7 of these fish being over 100 pounds.
