27 years after Father Alfred Kunz’s murder, Sheriff in Wisconsin urges killer to confess as investigation continues

DANE COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – March 4, 2025, marks the 27th anniversary of the murder of Father Alfred Kunz, a Catholic priest who was a pastor in Madison for over 30 years, and officials are urging the killer to come forward.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to search for Father Kunz’s killer to this day, and in a Tuesday morning Facebook post, the department left a message for whoever did it.

“You have a story to tell, and we want to hear it,” the post said. “Time has passed, but the truth remains. The community is still waiting for answers, and we are still searching for justice. You may think this case is forgotten, but we haven’t stopped working.”

The post added that it’s never too late to come forward, and urged the public to help in the continued investigation. Anybody with information is urged to call the Dane County Sheriff’s tip line at (608) 284-6900, or leave one on the department website.
