Appleton PD takes person into custody after hours-long standoff on North Bay Street

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – A multi-hour standoff on Appleton’s North Bay Street ended Friday night with one person being taken into custody.

According to the Appleton Police Department, officers responded to the 2400 block for a welfare check around 3 p.m. on January 3.

When officers arrived, they reportedly encountered a person with a gun.

Occupants of the apartment complex were evacuated, and officers established a perimeter.

Phone contact was established with the person and due to statements made the Appleton Special Weapons and Tactics Team along with Crisis Negotiators were activated.

Appleton Special Weapons and Tactics Team along with Crisis Negotiators responded and remained at the scene for several hours.

Authorities were eventually able to enter the residence and take the person into custody without further incident. They were taken to a local hospital for further care.
