Oconto County man arrested in Arkansas after deadly ATV hit-and-run

GILLETT, Wis. (WFRV) – A 32-year-old man from Oconto County was apprehended in Arkansas after allegedly fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run crash that killed an ATV rider.

On Friday, October 25, 2024, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a crash between an ATV and an SUV on Shawano Line Road at Nelson Road in Gillett.

Deputies arrived to find an ATV on its side and its operator, identified as 60-year-old Thomas Roberts of Green Bay, lying nearby. An SUV, driven by 32-year-old Obilio Thomas Sargento Robrelo of Gillett, was found nearby with front-end damage.

Authorities report that lifesaving measures were attempted on Roberts, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Robrelo allegedly fled on foot, and an extensive search led to his arrest at a hotel in Jacksonville, Arkansas. He is currently held at the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility, awaiting extradition to Oconto County.

Manitowoc police asking for more information following two-vehicle crash

Oconto County Sheriff Todd Skarban extended condolences to Roberts’ family, honoring Roberts as a husband, father, and retired Green Bay Police Officer. “All our love and prayers go out to Robert’s family as they mourn the loss of a beloved husband, father, and retired City of Green Bay Police Officer,” Skarban said.

The incident remains under investigation.
