NEW BERLIN, Wis. (WFRV) – A Police Sergeant in Wisconsin was charged on Wednesday with multiple crimes, including felony Misconduct in Public Office, stemming from an investigation into missing drugs.
According to the New Berlin Police Department, Sergeant Steve Dodson, a 20-year department veteran, was identified as a suspect in the investigation back in December 2024 when he was placed on administrative leave.

The missing drugs were reportedly from the department’s K9 program, used for training. They’re intended to help enhance the K9 unit’s ability to combat drug activity, and the safeguards in place were to ensure they were secured. The release said Sgt. Dodson wasn’t part of the K9 unit.
The release added that the investigation was performed by the Waukesha Police Department to ensure unbiased reviews and no conflict of interest during the criminal investigation.
In addition, Sgt. Dodson was charged with an operating while intoxicated offense and possession of a firearm while intoxicated, stemming from an arrest on Tuesday when he reportedly drove into a median on I-43. This incident was separate from the drug case.
The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office had deputies on the scene, and they deemed him intoxicated, with a vehicle search revealing a personal handgun.
