COURTLAND, Wis. (WFRV) – A 21-year-old Wisconsin woman is dead after a massive crash involving a semi-truck driver from Texas, who was arrested for homicide by negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
According to a release, on Friday, Oct. 4, 2024, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a severe motor vehicle crash at the intersection of County Highway A and County Highway G in the town of Courtland.

It was reported that the crash involved a semi-truck and a passenger truck. The occupant of the passenger truck was unresponsive. Citizens also had stopped at the crash, removed the occupant, and began CPR.
Upon arrival, the 21-year-old woman was transported by MedFlight to a nearby hospital, where she later died from the injuries she sustained during the crash.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the semi-truck failed to stop at a stop sign on County Highway G, traveling into the path of the passenger truck on County Highway A, causing a major collision.
The Wisconsin State Patrol was called to assist with reconstructing the crash and a commercial vehicle inspection. This thorough review of the vehicles and evidence from the crash scene allowed a complete understanding of the facts of the crash.
The driver of the semi-truck was cooperative with the investigation. Jibreel Aguirre, 25, of Garland, Texas, was taken into custody and held at the Columbia County Jail for homicide by negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

“This was a preventable crash that tragically cost a young woman her life,” said Columbia County Sheriff Captain David Clark. “The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the citizens [who] stopped and took action to try to save the young woman’s life.”
